What is a Life Plan Community?

Berkeley Square and Westover are Life Plan Communities. This is a great lifestyle option for older adults because it means the community has everything you need now and well into the future. Colonial communities offer many services in one location, giving you the security of knowing you will not have to make another move if your needs change. Residents of our vibrant communities know that they will have preferred access to services when needed.

Whatever level of care you receive at Berkeley Square or Westover, you can be assured it will be of the highest quality.  We maintain a 5-Star rating from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), signifying above-average quality at a national level.

What is Assisted Living?

With the support of a trained, 24-hour staff, you will be empowered to remain independent and connected.  Assisted living services include:

  • Chef-prepared meals with table service in the dining rooms
  • Daily opportunities for learning, creativity, fitness and fun
  • Weekly housekeeping and linen services
  • Emergency pull cords and/or pendants
  • Assistance with daily tasks like bathing, grooming, and getting dressed
  • Medication administration
  • Incontinence care

Our goal for assisted living is to care for you or your loved one, and that care may not look the same for every person. We believe that care is individualized, and we want to help keep you as independent as possible.

Will I have a roommate in my assisted living apartment?

No. All assisted living apartments are private.

What happens if I run out of money?

One of the biggest concerns of older adults is wondering whether they have enough finances to maintain their standard of living for the rest of their lives.  As a way of fulfilling our mission, we make a commitment to residents to provide care for life.  Generous gifts to the Life Care Fund allow residents to rest assured that they will not have to leave their home or apartment if their resources are depleted.

Will I need to change doctors when I move into Berkeley Square or Westover?

No, you may continue seeing the doctors of your choice, and we can even provide transportation to and from your appointments. If it’s convenient for you, we also offer a site medical director who may visit you right in your apartment.

Do I have to sign over all of my assets to Berkeley Square or Westover?

No. You will only pay for goods or services that you have received.

Can I have a pet?

Pets are allowed in independent living and certain areas of assisted living.

Can I bring my own furnishings?

Yes. Whether you’re a resident in independent or assisted living, we consider Colonial your home and want you to fill your home with what you love.

What if I have a medical emergency?

All homes and apartments are equipped with emergency alert systems and/or pendants. Staff members are on-site 24 hours a day to respond and offer immediate assistance and call emergency services if needed.

Do you offer short-term assisted living stays?

Yes. Come have a “stay-cation” with us to experience all the same benefits and amenities that residents enjoy every day! Some restrictions apply.

Is there transportation available?

Yes. Getting to the grocery store or to a medical appointment can be especially difficult for older adults. The Community First FLEET provides daytime transportation to help you maintain your independence.

With over 20,000 trips a year, the FLEET provides a vital door through door service, making sure that older adults get to their appointments and back inside their home safely.
